Built in 1947, Villa Royale emerged in Palm Springs during a period of Post-World War II development in the Coachella Valley. Adding a small pool of guestrooms to the south end of Palm Springs alongside the Deep Well Guest Ranch and Smoke Tree Ranch, Villa Royale was an early small hotel in south Palm Springs. Owned and managed by a woman by the name of Evelyn Pell, family lore has it that the California ranch-style hotel took its name from the first initials of Evelyn’s children – Valorie and Richard. You can stay at The Evelyn Pell Villa, a private residence with its own hot tub and garden.

With 38 rooms total – each with a unique look and feel – guests can expect new mahogany woodwork, vintage mid-century furniture and original oil paintings. Villa Royale is accommodating to pets, too. Amenities include in-room pet beds and plush dog toys, dog and cat food, custom-made dog tags and in-room VIP (Very Important Pet) door hangers.
