Nestled in the heart of downtown Palm Springs, Drift is an industrial chic boutique hotel made for the modern traveler near the city’s most popular attractions. The hotel balances Palm Springs’ mid-century modern flair and the Drift brand’s Baja roots through colors reflective of the Californian desert, contemporary architecture and décor sourced by Mexican and Californian artisans.

Located a few steps away from the city’s main street, the hotel features a resort-style pool with private cabanas, a rooftop with San Jacinto Mountain views, and accommodations ranging from studios to 4-BD suites equipped with kitchens. Offering standout amenities of complimentary bikes and yoga mats, Drift Palm Springs is additionally home to two spectacular dining concepts, the upscale Baja-inspired eatery, Maleza and Drift Pool Bar.

The History:

Originally built as Castle’s Red Barn in 1951 by MGM actor Don Castle, it was one of the original resort getaways for Hollywood elite. Legend has it that iconic actress Elizabeth Montgomery had her first marriage at the Red Barn. The property also has had incarnations as Catalina Palms, El Rancho Lodge and now Sparrows Lodge. The Lodge was fully restored in 2013 and many of the original buildings are still in use with modern updates retaining the charm of the original Red Barn.

The Lodge:

Sparrows Lodge is a completely restored 1950s retreat. You will be welcomed roadside with a simple hand-painted sign with two Sparrows. The Lodge has a modern rustic vibe that carries through to our rooms, communal barn, outdoor fire pit and vegetable garden. The 20 rooms feature exposed beam ceilings, russet red walls, concrete floors with inlaid pebbles and butterfly chairs. Swiss army blankets top plush mattresses, and instead of closets you’ll find a metal footlocker along with hooks and hangers. Our bathrooms feature rain showers, designer toiletries and many include horse troughs as bathtubs. Most rooms have private patios. All rooms have AC/Heat and ceiling fans. With no televisions or phones in the rooms, there is an environment of ease and simplicity. The Lodge’s barn serves a simple breakfast included in your room rate consisting of muffins, yogurt, granola, fruit and toast. Relax by our pool where umbrellas and misters keep things cool or play a game of horseshoes. To stay hydrated enjoy our special selection of microbrews, wine, champagne, specialty drinks and sodas. In the evening, gather around the fire pit and meet new friends.

Location:

Sparrows Lodge is located in South Palm Springs. It’s walking distance to Koffi and the simple and delicious Appertito Italian deli. We have lots of other great dinning and drinking spots in town. Explore the area on one of our bikes. Outdoor activities await at Joshua Tree National Park, the Living Desert, the Aerial Tram or, closer-in, golf at Tahquitz Canyon and Indian Canyons. For local shopping, check out unique design and clothing shops on North Palm Canyon Drive or visit Hedge and the many great shops on Perez Design row in Cathedral City. Lots of interesting estate sale and “vintage finds” shops are in the area. Ask us for our favorites in town or near by. Pioneer Town is a fun day trip as is horse ride at the nearby Smoke Tree stables.

Holiday House is a 28-room boutique hotel located in downtown Palm Springs. Originally opened in 1951, the hotel was designed by noted architect Herbert W. Burns.

Today, it has been reimagined by interior designer Mark D. Sikes and the team behind Sparrows Lodge.

The property features midcentury inspired elements combined with a communal atmosphere and whimsical edge. The design centers around Gio Ponti inspired tile-work in the bar and artwork throughout the property including pieces by David Hockney, Roy Liechtenstein, Herb Ritts, Alex Katz and Mr. Brainwash, with a garden sculpture by Donald Sultan.

Built in 1947, Villa Royale emerged in Palm Springs during a period of Post-World War II development in the Coachella Valley. Adding a small pool of guestrooms to the south end of Palm Springs alongside the Deep Well Guest Ranch and Smoke Tree Ranch, Villa Royale was an early small hotel in south Palm Springs. Owned and managed by a woman by the name of Evelyn Pell, family lore has it that the California ranch-style hotel took its name from the first initials of Evelyn’s children – Valorie and Richard. You can stay at The Evelyn Pell Villa, a private residence with its own hot tub and garden.

With 38 rooms total – each with a unique look and feel – guests can expect new mahogany woodwork, vintage mid-century furniture and original oil paintings. Plus, in-room cocktail parlors with liquor, mixers, cocktails books and tools.  Designer Anne L’Esperance also sprinkled colorful, graphic tile from Portugal, Spain and Mexico throughout the property.

Villa Royale is accommodating to pets, too. Amenities include in-room pet beds and plush dog toys, dog and cat food, custom-made dog tags and in-room VIP (Very Important Pet) door hangers.

Electra bikes are complementary for guests to explore Palm Springs.

The Ingleside Inn & Melvyn’s Restaurant has been featured as One of the Top Ten by Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous. Fashioned from a gracious estate, The Ingleside Inn is an official Palm Springs Historic Landmark.

The inn is quiet and secluded but within one block of the heart of Palm Springs. Five minutes to shopping, Convention, Desert Museum and the Palm Springs Airport. The 30 room, 2 acre property offers luxury lodging and suite accommodations that recall the romance and glamour of the golden age of Hollywood. Unwind by the pool, enjoy fine dining at world famous Melvyn’s Restaurant and rest in timeless luxury.
Ruth Hardy originally purchased the property as her private residence in the 1930s. One of her passions was playing hostess to film stars and celebrities. Unlike other popular resorts, reservations were not taken. One could only stay if personally invited by Ms. Hardy. Her list of guests included the likes of Greta Garbo, Clark Gable, and Howard Hughes.  Unfortunately, after her death the inn fell into disrepair.

In 1975, after only 15 minutes of looking at the property, Melvyn Haber, current owner, and a celebrity in his own right, purchased the inn. After spending a small fortune restoring inn, he reopened its doors to all guests, famous and not so famous. You can enjoy this well-documented adventure by reading his entertaining book, “Bedside Stories From The Ingleside Inn, by Mel Haber”.

Great for the executive retreat, or romantic escape, this legendary boutique hotel is a place to relax, refresh and re-energize. Famous as a hideaway for the celebrities of show business, finance and politics, this landmark inn would be honored to add your name to it’s guestbook.
