L’Horizon Resort and Spa, a part of Herman Luxury Resorts, started as a private getaway for Hollywood stars, and today, it’s been restored to its Golden Age glory. Designer Steve Hermann had his eyes on Palm Springs, and turned the 25-bungalow property into a resort known around the world. L’Horizon is the flagship of his new luxury hospitality company, Steve Hermann Hotels, and was originally designed in 1952 by William F. Cody as a retreat for television producer and oil tycoon Jack Wrather and his actress wife, Bonita “Bunny” Granville. The rooms feel more like private residences, and are spaced across three acres. They are light and bright, with custom natural fiber mattresses, luxurious Frette bed linens, oversized bathrooms and showers, Le Labo bath products, Nespresso coffee machines, smart TVs, and Apple TVs. The Residence is the property’s most spectacular accommodation; Wrather’s original home, it’s 2,000 square feet, with a private full-sized pool and yard. The living room and yard have unobstructed views of the mountains, and there is a sunken seating area, wood-burning fireplace, dining room, wet bar, kitchen, marble bathrooms with rainforest showers, and an outdoor shower. The 21-and-over property is also home to SOPA, a gourmet restaurant and cocktail lounge; The Spa, which offers massages, body treatments, facials, and add-ons like peppermint foot therapy and wild lime scalp treatments; and Le Shop, a boutique featuring Naturopathica’s skincare and body products, resort wear, swimsuits, jewelry, sunglasses, and home accessories.
