Built by Herbert Burns as his personal home with guest apartments in 1947. The property was initially called the Town & Desert Apartments. It was renamed The Hideaway by previous owners, referencing an Architectural Digest story. The Hideaway was designated a Class 1 Historic Site in 2014. It was a key part of Palm Springs’ mid-century modern movement, known for its focus on livability and blending strong composition with clear lines. The Hideaway was described as “the apartments of tomorrow” when it opened and gained national attention.
