The Ingleside Inn & Melvyn's Restaurant has been featured as One of the Top Ten by Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous. Fashioned from a gracious estate, The Ingleside Inn is an official Palm Springs Historic Landmark.

The inn is quiet and secluded but within one block of the heart of Palm Springs. Five minutes to shopping, Convention, Desert Museum and the Palm Springs Airport. The 30 room, 2 acre property offers luxury lodging and suite accommodations that recall the romance and glamour of the golden age of Hollywood. Unwind by the pool, enjoy fine dining at world famous Melvyn's Restaurant and rest in timeless luxury.

Ruth Hardy originally purchased the property as her private residence in the 1930s. One of her passions was playing hostess to film stars and celebrities. Unlike other popular resorts, reservations were not taken. One could only stay if personally invited by Ms. Hardy. Her list of guests included the likes of Greta Garbo, Clark Gable, and Howard Hughes.  Unfortunately, after her death the inn fell into disrepair.

In 1975, after only 15 minutes of looking at the property, Melvyn Haber, current owner, and a celebrity in his own right, purchased the inn. After spending a small fortune restoring inn, he reopened its doors to all guests, famous and not so famous. You can enjoy this well-documented adventure by reading his entertaining book, "Bedside Stories From The Ingleside Inn, by Mel Haber".

Great for the executive retreat, or romantic escape, this legendary boutique hotel is a place to relax, refresh and re-energize. Famous as a hideaway for the celebrities of show business, finance and politics, this landmark inn would be honored to add your name to it's guestbook.

Ingleside Inn: A throwback to a more glamorous time

The Ingleside Inn is going back to its roots.

The Spanish Colonial Revival-style property dates back to the 1920s, when it was owned by a wealthy automaker, but it was transformed in the 1930s by Palm Springs pioneer Ruth Hardy, who turned it into an invitation-only private club, where everyone from Elizabeth Taylor to Ava Gardner to Marlon Brando stayed and Carole Lombard and Clark Gable honeymooned.

In the 1970s, new owner Melvyn Haber put his own spin on things, with Frank Sinatra becoming a regular at the iconic Melvyn's Restaurant. Following Haber's passing in 2016, the Ingleside Inn is now under the management of PlumpJack Group, which launched a major revitalization project in June that they hope will be completed by the end of the year.

"We're turning it back to the 1930s," managing director Dan Ferrante said. "The property is going to reflect that era, and the flatscreen TVs, glass shower doors, and Keurig coffee makers will be the only things that remind you it's not the 1930s."

As the 30-room Ingleside Inn becomes a luxury retreat, one thing will remain untouched — Melvyn's Restaurant. The cocktail napkins will have Haber's likeness while the booth where he used to sit and have dinner every night will still have his picture above it.

"One of the biggest things we offer is table-side service, a lost art that you don't just find anywhere," Ferrante said. "They come out and make the steak Diane right in front of you — that was Frank Sinatra's favorite dish."
